This section focuses on software products, toolkits and libraries for grid
computing.
Tools for Grid Computing
- Design tools
- Developer tools
- Administration and monitoring tools
-
Moab Grid Suite®
- This is a
a policy-based workload management solution that integrates scheduling,
managing, monitoring and reporting of workloads across independent clusters.
-
-
Akenti Distributed Access Control
- Akenti is a freely-downloadable toolkit from Lawrence Berkeley Labs. It
implements distributed policy management using X.509 certificates and PKI
security. Akenti provides scalable security services for highly distributed
network environments.
-
ASPEED ACCELLERANT SDK
- The ACCELERANT SDK enables
developers to create distributed parallel applications. It provides load
balancing and self-policing fault tolerance. Works with various versions of
Linux and Windows operating systems.
-
Digipede Network
- The Digipede
Network is a commercial grid computing solution based on
Microsoft .NET. It includes the Digipede Server, Digipede Agents and
Digipede Workbench.
-
GigaSpaces Enterprise
Application Grid
- The GigaSpaces Enterprise Application Grid includes an enterprise
messaging grid, enterprise data grid, service-oriented architecture and core
JavaSpaces grid. The enterprise data grid provides a JDBC interface to an
in-memory JavaSpaces data store and the enterprise messaging grid supports a
distributed JMS grid and content-based routing.

-
Globus Toolkit
- This is an open source toolkit for Java developers. It has been adapted
by IBM and Oracle for their grid computing product offerings. It includes
software for resource monitoring, discovery, and management, plus security
and file management. Version 4 includes libraries for building WSRF clients
and servers.
-
-
GridIron XLR8
- This is a toolkit for C++ and Java developers who
want to enable their applications with grid capabilities. GridIron
XLR8 supports parallel processing on CPUs and exposes an API with
approximately a dozen primary calls.

-
GridSite Toolkit
- This is a toolkit for sites using the Apache web server. It includes a
set of extensions to the web server, access control lists based on Grid
Access Control Language, a toolkit for Grid credentials and secure HTTP
messaging. It uses X.509
certificates to authenticate users.
- IBM Emerging
Technologies Tooklit (ETTK)
- IBM's Web Services Toolkit has morphed into an SDK that contains
Autonomic Computing Toolset, Semantic Web Services, Service Data Objects (SDO),
WS-MetadataExchange, Web Services Distributed Management (WSDM 0.5), WS-ResourceFramework
1.1 (WS-ResourceProperties, WS-ResourceLifetime, WS-Notification), Common
Base Event (CBE) 1.0.1, Policy-Based IT Management Demo, WS-Trust, and
WS-ReliableMessaging (WS-RM). The demos and software in the ETTK run on
Windows and Linux.
-
IBM Grid Application Framework for Java (GAF4J)
- This is a Java framework that simplifies grid programming. It abstracts
grid semantics from application logic. Programmers can create and invoke
remote grid jobs in a manner similar to creating threads.
-
IBM Grid Toolbox
- This download includes tools from Globus and APIs and tools for
developing grid services and grid applications. It includes a limited
integrated development and hosting environment and grid administration
tools.
- JDBC Drivers and
Servers
- This is a list containing dozens of JDBC drivers and middle-tier
servers.
- .NET Data Providers
- This list of .NET data providers contains providers for a variety of
data sources.
- ODBC Drivers and
Servers
- This is a comprehensive list with more than 200 ODBC drivers for a
variety of data sources. The list also includes middle-tier ODBC servers.
-
OGSA-DAI Client
Toolkit
- This is self-contained Java middleware that sits between applications
and grid node management software. It provides a measure of autonomic
computing by letting applications automatically reconfigure themselves.
-
Optimal
Grid
- This is a freely-downloadable toolkit from IBM for developing Java clients that
access data sources on the grid.
-
Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control
- This download from OTN is an integrated product for monitoring and
managing grids, their software and server infrastructure, applications and
services.
-
Platform Symphony
- Platform Symphony is an enterprise grid-enabler that distributes
application processing across heterogeneous IT resources. It uses a Virtual
Execution Machine (VEM) as a layer between applications and grid resources.
Platform Symphony 2.2 is available for Linux, Solaris, AIX, HP-UX and
Windows operating systems and it works with InfiniBand and other
high-performance interconnects . It also includes an adapter for Microsoft
Excel that permits distributed processing for compute-intensive worksheets.
-
pyGridWare
- This is a Python implementation of the Web Services Resource Framework,
including WS-Addressing, WS-Notification, WS-Lifetime management and
WS-Security. It provides GSI Secure Conversation, Secure Messaging, and XML
Signatures.
-
pyGlobus
- This is a Python wrapper for the Globus toolkit (through version 3.2).
-
RM4GS
- This is a freely-downloadable, open source implementation of the
WS-Reliability specification (reliable messaging). This is Java code
developed by Fujitsu, Hitachi, and NEC for the Business Grid Computing
Project promoted by the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
