Here we feature presentations and articles published about grid computing and utility computing -- on the web or in magazines and journals.

The Client Toolkit Tutorial for Release 4 of OGSA-DAI
This presentation explains version 6.0 of the client toolkit from the OGSA Data Access and Integration project. The OGSA-DAI toolkit provides a Java API for client development. It provides activities for doing FTP transfers, SQL queries and XSL transformations.

Design an application for grid
Bart Jacobs

This article provides guidelines for designing grid applications (not grid services).
It classifies 32 design elements into three main areas (job, data, environment).

Getting on the Grid: The Fundamentals
Damir Bersinic

This article provides a view from 10,000 meters of the grid computing features of Oracle 10g.

Globus GRAM
Karl Czajkowski

This article describes the role of the Globus Resource Allocation Manager (GRAM). Grid schedulers are mediators that enable applications to access resources without starving other applications. To facilitate balancing of resources, GRAM supports communications between applications and schedulers. GRAM was recently re-written so the latest version works with the web services stack.

Grid and the Future of the Network Machine
In a March, 2005 panel discussion, executives of storage technology and networking companies discussed grid trends. The panel participants included Robert Fogel (Intel: Director of Worldwide Grid Strategy and Business Development), Michael Feinberg (HP: Vice President and CTO of Network Storage Solutions),  Alexander Gebhart (SAP: Development Manager, Netweaver Enterprise Grid Computing), David Martin (IBM: Program Director, Internet Standards and Technology), Rob Redford (Cisco: Vice President, product and technology marketing), and Franco Travostino (Nortel: director of Advanced Technology).

Grid's Place in the Service-Oriented Architecture
Ian Foster

In this article the co-founder of the Globus Alliance discusses the convergence of grid computing and service-oriented architectures (SOA). He suggests that grids are a solution for dealing with the problems associated with deploying thousands of distributed services.

Grid Security Infrastructure
José M. Vidal (University of South Carolina)

This presentation is a high-level overview of the Globus toolkit and grid computing topics such as the GridFTP, the GRAM protocol and Grid Security Infrastructure (GSI).

GSI Authentication on Web Services
Ashraf Memon (San Diego Supercomputer Center)

This presentation explains how to apply the OGSI security infrastructure to grid services and web services.

Heterogeneous Computing Workshop Presentation
Geoff Brown, Director of Grid Computing, delivered this keynote presentation to the Heterogeneous Computing Workshop at the International Parallel and Distributed Symposium.

Index grid services using Globus Toolkit 3.0
Cai Jun Jie

The Globus toolkit includes an Information service implemented as the Index Service. This article explains how to use the Index Service to index grid services, using static or dynamic indexing.

OGSA-DAI for GT4 Developers
Neil Chue Hong, Ally Hume, Mike Jackson

This is a very interesting presentation from the GlobusWORLD conference. It discusses data access and integration in a grid environment that often includes often contains (petabyte-sized) very large databases (VLDB). It explains the OGSA-DAI solution for working with OGSI, WS-I and WS-RF interfaces.

Overview of Open Grid Services Architecture (OGSA)
The Global Grid Forum published this two-page overview of the OGSA and the eight classes of OGSA services.

Recent OGSI to WSRF Changes
Ian Foster

This Powerpoint presentation explains the transition from Open Grid Services Infrastructure (OGSI) to the Web Services Resource Framework (WSRF).

Security for Virtual Organizations: Federating Trust and Policy Domains
Frank Siebenlist, Nataraj Nagaratnam, Von Welch, Clifford Neuman

This is an excerpt from Grid 2: Blueprint for a New Computing Infrastructure (Morgan Kaufmann Publishers).

Understanding Grid Security
Ken North

This overview discusses grid computing architecture documents -- OGSA, OGSI and WSRF. It explains what they prescribe in the way of security. It also discusses security tools such as the Globus Toolkit.

WS-GAF Presentation at Global Grid Forum Symposium (GGF9)
Savas Parastatidis, Jim Webber, Paul Watson, Thomas Rischbeck (north-east regional e-science centre)

This presentation explains the Web Services Grid Application Framework, a proposal for marrying grids with web services.
